Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Ronald McDonald House of Winston-Salem. There are lots of ways you can help, either by yourself or with a group.

Become a House or Family Room Volunteer – Apply Online

House Volunteers provide assistance with daily household chores including light housekeeping, clerical work, sorting donations, and assisting with family check-ins. House Volunteers must be at least 15 years old.

Family Room Volunteers extend the services offered at the House to all families with hospitalized children treated at Brenner Children’s Hospital and in the Sara Lee Center for Women’s Health at Forsyth Medical Center. Volunteers greet guests, assist with check-ins, and keep the kitchen stocked with food. Family Room Volunteers must be at least 21 years old.

Become a Family Support Volunteer – Apply Online

Family Support Volunteers act as a “sounding board” for the families who are staying at the House and participate in special programs such as pet therapy and craft time. The volunteer’s primary responsibility is to interact with the families and act as a friend in a time of need. Extensive training and a regular commitment is required prior to interaction with the families. Family Support Volunteers must be at least 21 years old.

Prepare a Meal

Our families spend long days at the hospital with their children and often have little time, energy or resources to cook breakfast or dinner. The gift of a hot, balanced meal is always enjoyed and deeply appreciated.

To schedule a time to cook a meal for House families, please contact our Meals Coordinator at meals@rmhws.org or (336) 970-5665.

Bake Snacks or Make Treat Bags

Being able to grab a quick snack is a great comfort to parents and children who are hungry and in a hurry. Commercially prepared, individually wrapped snacks such as trail mix, crackers, cookies, chips, or other similar items are always needed.

Homemade brownies, cakes, pies, cookies and other baked goods can also be prepared and packaged by you on-site in our kitchen. To schedule a time to bake for families, please contact our Director of Volunteer Services at beckys@rmhws.org or call (336) 970-5651.

The time you invest in shopping for baking supplies, coming to our facility and then preparing the snacks for our families can be counted as two service hours. Any Ronald McDonald Staff member can sign forms you might need to verify that you have completed the hours.

Join the Tuesday Night Volunteer Program

Individuals or groups who would like to help with various projects around the House may want to consider the Tuesday Night Volunteer Program(Tuesdays 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.) as a way to volunteer. No special skills are needed, just a willingness to pitch in to help fold linens, make deliveries, organize donations, clean, and do “whatever needs doing.” Space is limited each week so please contact our Director of Volunteer Services at beckys@rmhws.org or call (336) 970-5651 to sign-up.

Become a Teen with Heart

A “Teen with Heart” is a high school student (age 15-18) who pledges to make a difference by volunteering during the summer at the Ronald McDonald House. Teens work in our offices, help with household tasks, deliver supplies the Family Room, and do a million other things to help keep the House running during the busy summer months.
