If you are interested in staying at our House, ask your child’s doctor, nurse, social worker or chaplain to refer you. Once the referral has been made, your name will be placed on our waiting list and you will be contacted by a member of our House Operations staff.
Please note that the Ronald McDonald House of Winston-Salem conducts criminal background checks on all guests 18 years or older. You will be asked to complete a background check authorization form either before or during your check-in. The background check is primarily screening for felony convictions and pending charges for violent crimes. However, we reserve the right to deny access to the House on any grounds. If you refuse to complete the background check, your room request will be denied.
In addition to the background check authorization form, there will be other paperwork to complete during check-in. Please ensure that each adult staying in the House has a photo ID on-hand when checking in.
FAQs about this process:
Can I speak to someone in more detail about my background check?
You are welcome to call the House to speak to a manager about your personal circumstances. Most traffic violations will not be seen as reason for denial. A denial is not made lightly.
Will this include a credit check?
We do not conduct a credit check or see any credit history information.
One family member has been convicted of a crime but others have not, does that exclude all members from staying?
While the family member with the conviction is not allowed to stay in the House, the rest of the family is still welcome to stay.
